Memories from the Mayor
Reviving the Old Calvert BankDuring last Monday’s City Council meeting, Loyd Ford discussed Calvert Area Development Association’s (CADA) desire to preserve and use the original Calvert Bank building for our community.
Organized in 1908 as a branch of the Smithland Bank, Calvert Bank’s organizers made available more adequate economic opportunity for Calvert’s citizens. It is appropriate to recognize the important impact the Calvert Bank had on the community and the spark of life it provided.
To preserve, restore, and re-use the 1908 building brings the community closer to her foundational roots and honors the men and women who built Calvert City. It is a most worthy project, a project I am excited to join CADA in making “dreams come true.” You’ll hear more about this project soon.
