Flood Plain Management

Like many communities in the Ohio and Mississippi river valleys, Calvert City has many acres within the city limits that are located in the special flood hazard area (SFHA).  Click on link to view the (SFHA).  The SFHA is more commonly known as the 100 year flood.  This is a misnomer because a flood of this magnitude can occur at any time and even multiple times in a given year.  The management of the SFHA is to protect against loss of life and property.  Calvert City participates in the National Flood Insurance Program.  Participation in the National Flood Insurance Program requires that the community adopt a Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.  Any development within the SFHA must be permitted.  Applications for (State) permit and (City) permit are available by clicking on the link.  The City Administrator functions as the Floodplain Administrator. The City Administrator’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Please consult with the Administrator for possible options for your project
